MTM-UAS "Universal analyse system".

Origin
The UAS system was introduced by the German MTM association in 1980.    The system is a variant of the German Mercedes system which is called C-werte.  It was the aim of  the German UAS assocation to make the fastest MTM system on the market.  But today there are quicker systems than UAS.  The ideal area to use UAS is where cycle times are longer than in high volume work let say more than 60 seconds.  A typical environment is the truck industry with cycle times around 15 minutes.   UAS users often agree that analysed times tend to be higher than with MTM-SD.  The reason is that predetermined UAS times are statistical rounded up values.  The UAS system has around 70 different codes what makes this system still complex to learn and to use.
Concept

1.  Labour is seen as taking and placing a object in relation with the distance and the weight of the object with the related problems where taking and placing are combined in one action.

2.  Once a object is taken and placed,  replacing can occur. So placing is also defined as a separate category.

3.  The use of tooling is described in a separate table because tool use is somehow different because one has to apply it.  Tool time is a combination of take and multiple place actions.

4.  Frequential activity's are describe in the operate table.

5.  Body motions or layout are defined in meters and not in steps.
Example:  take and place leftdoor info fixture

MTM UAS anlayse of leftdoor
Actions Code Time
Go to bin KA * 3,4m 3,98
Take leftdoor and bring to body AH3 1,98
Go to fixture KA * 2.58m 2.322
Place leftdoor into fixture PB2 1,08
Total   ------------------------->
8,478 Sec

Conclusion
MTM-UAS is good usable system with a acceptable learning curve. The major disadvantage is that UAS  mostly result in a higher analyse time.  Walk times are expressed in meters in stead of steps and are highly quoted. It is important for the user to know that UAS times are not suited for short cyclic work or high product volumes.  The distances are restricted in 3 categories and sometimes these will lead to doubtable quotations.
