MTM-SD Standard data
|
| Origin |
|
MTM-SD was introduced by the German MTM association in 1960. The system simplifies strongly the MTM-1 basic concept en is today the product of the German MTM association to analyse high volume work. You will find MTM-SD in car automotive assembly plants or where high series are made .
The SD system is based on more than one hundred categories en 100% derived from MTM-1.

| Basic concept |
1. Take and place are defined in two different categories but they include now all coherent actions to take and place. The difficulty degree and the distance is included. Basically the analyst has to identify the actions like take or place and recognise additional difficulties.
2. The table "general data" allows you to specify additional difficulties like weight, pressure, turns and the use of the eyes.
3. Body motions are the movements of legs and feet.
4. Read and write defines the labour time to read and write text.

| Conclusion |
|
Although the SD system is a drastical simplification of MTM-1 it remains a difficult system to learn and to use. The system has more than hundred codes and a lot of rules to take in account to apply it correctly. The basic principle is that the analyst has to recognise take and place with the nescessary additional parameters. Therefore it is vital that the users knows the system 100% otherwise it will lead to forget additional necessary codes and a analyse time which is to short. Although MTM-SD is today almost fifthy years old the MTM-organisation still sees it as a modern time study system. But today there are faster and easier systems one can use. But MTM-SD is still in use and is an import player in the time study market.
